Government Island
Chichester Park in Fredericksburg, VA is a multi-faceted recreational and cultural gem. The most obvious draws include five diamond fields, a large picnic pavilion, a sylvan woodland along the road and an elevated boardwalk. In fact, there is an official opening ceremony planned for March 5th.
Not to be outdone, the Government Island Park (GIP) is not short on scenic splendor. Known for its ode to the state’s past and present, the park is also a showcase of local and regional history. Its namesake is a 17-acre historic site, teeming with historical and archaeological significance. In fact, it’s on the Virginia Landmarks List and the National Register of Historical Places.
What’s more, the new facility is home to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, led by Eric Olsen, as well as the county’s Victim/Witness Assistance office. There’s also a Community Center with classes, a library, a golf course and a number of other fun activities to keep you entertained. There’s also a plethora of fun activities available at the Aquia Landing, a small beach located on Aquia Creek.
